Dr. Harris graduated from Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1983. Following one year in a rural mixed animal practice in Wisconsin, she moved to Phoenix, AZ to begin employment at Chaparral Animal Hospital. In 1988 she left Chaparral and in 1989 purchased Village Plaza Animal Hospital, an AAHA accredited small animal hospital on Tatum Blvd. (in Phoenix). For the next thirteen years she saw small animal and exotic cases in the hospital and equine medical and surgical cases in the field. Eventually, both practice disciplines expanded

and time limitations (24 hours in a day) forced the sale of Village Plaza. Now spring brings breeding, foaling, preventative healthcare and early season horse shows, summer heralds the onset of weather related health concerns, and through the fall and winter care of both performance and pleasure horses fill the practice appointment schedule. Dr. Harris also actively participates in the drug testing programs sponsored by both USAE and AQHA. In July 2002 she became a member of the Veterinary Honor Roll for the Morris Foundation for Animals, and in July 2004 she was presented with the national My Vet Matters award by the American Association of Equine Practitioners.

Outside the veterinary sphere, Dr. Harris enjoys trail riding, snow skiing, scuba diving and both domestic and inter-national travel.  She and her husband, Glenn Shearer, are building a cabin in Strawberry, AZ, where they can enjoy their horses on summer weekends.  Glenn also enjoys snow skiing, trail riding and travel.
